New issue of "ODBRANA"

In the June issue of the "Odbrana" magazine, read about the following:

IN FOCUS: During the fight against the coronavirus, the armed forces met the needs of the people and the state in a dignified way and proved once again that they are a great support. On the other hand, through intensive training and testing of new assets, they show daily their uncompromising determination to preserve and improve operational capabilities, which are a guarantee of security to all Serbian citizens thanks to intensive cooperation with all partners who respect the strategic commitments of our country. Among other things, this was shown by a recent analysis of fulfilment of key tasks of the Serbian Armed Forces in the previous period, which was supported by the highest military leadership.

"The armed forces performed well, they fulfilled all the assigned tasks and received the first and heaviest blow, without leaving the position," points out the Minister of Defence Aleksandar Vulin in an exclusive INTERVIEW with our magazine in which he speaks about the role of the Serbian Armed Forces during the state of emergency, about "fighting on two fronts", commemorating important dates, humanity, about self-fulfilment and self-respect, but also about everything that awaits us after the "great shock".
The STANDPOINT column, written by Brigadier General Stojan Konjikovac, brings the article titled "Heroes from Paštrik", as a portrait of the heroic 549th Motorized Brigade, whose most difficult battle in 1999 was the battle for Paštrik. At the same time, it was the most symmetrical battle in the history of warfare, fought from 26 May to 14 June, in order to prevent the enemy from entering the territory of Kosovo and Metohija. They did not succeed, and the Brigade was awarded the Order of the People's Hero for everything that its members did during the defence against NATO aggression.
The achieved high level of operational capabilities had a direct influence on the readiness of the Serbian Armed Forces to fully perform all assigned tasks during the state of emergency. In the SYSTEM section, find out why the engagement of military health care during the coronavirus epidemic was assessed as a "victory of the professionals" and why the most competent ones claim that we are completely ready for a potential second wave of the epidemic. We bring you the story about the Guard, an elite unit of the Serbian Armed Forces, which explains why the members are so proud of its history, but also what makes them worthy of its bright tradition. Members of the special forces of the Serbian Armed Forces "returned" to their regular activities, and "Griffins" successfully conducted training at the "Kajtasovo" lock, where, "through water and smoke", they once again confirmed that the 72nd Brigade still ranks among the readiest special units in the world. This is also shown by the advanced parachute training of the members of the 63rd Parachute Brigade, whom we visited at the "Sergeant Pilot Mihajlo Petrović" military airport while they were "conquering the sky". We also recommend a text that explains why the modernized "gvoznika" will serve the Serbian Armed Forces for a long time, as well as an interesting story about members of the Serbian Armed Forces in Operation ATALANTA.

A SPECIAL SUPPLEMENT illustrates the contribution of the Ministry of Defence and the Serbian Armed Forces to the fight against the coronavirus, when the most trusted national institution once again showed how precious it is to its country and what kind of people it has. The battle against the coronavirus was not fought with weapons or equipment, it was led by people – through organization, training, commitment to the profession and, above all, to the country.

In the GLOBAL section, we write about the "world at the crossroads" after the coronavirus pandemic, about the things that will not be the same anymore, and in the historical overview we highlight a very provocative dilemma - whether, 75 years after the end of World War II, we are witnessing the dissolution of the memory of the common victory and its achievements.
