More than 2,300 patients examined at the Military Medical Academy

Following the consultations with the expert team from the People's Republic of China, and under orders from the National Emergency Management HQ and the COVID-19 Crisis Response Team, on 24th March, 2020, it was decided that the Military Medical Academy, due to the central ventilation system, was not an adequate hospital for the admission of patients infected with the coronavirus.

In this regard, as of 25th March, all patients in need of emergency medical care, regardless of the type of health insurance have been referred to the MMA.

In two days, on 25th and 26th March, 2020, 55 patients were referred from the Zvezdara Clinical Hospital Centre, a health care institution subsequently designated for the treatment of Covid-19 patients to the continuation of hospital treatment at the MMA, and six patients were transferred there from the Clinical Centre of Serbia. In addition to admitting emergency cases, 72 patients were referred from the Zvezdara Clinical Hospital Centre to continue dialysis treatment at the MMA.

From 25th March to 6th April, 2,350 citizens were examined at the admission-triage checkpoint in front of the Emergency Centre of the MMA.

In the same period after the triage, 1,383 patients whose medical condition required further diagnostic and therapeutic procedures were examined at the MMA’s Emergency Centre. Out of these patients, 274 were admitted for inpatient treatment at the MMA (239 patients with civilian and 35 patients with military health insurance), and 47 emergency surgical procedures were performed.
