Minister Vulin: Sixteen years ago the world was peacefully watching the icons and people burn in Kosovo and Metohija
- If the world has forgotten that 16 years ago there was a pogrom against Serbs in Kosovo and Metohija, Serbia has not. Sixteen years ago, all that was Serbian was killed or expelled, burned or destroyed by the Shiptars. The world was quietly watching the icons and people burn for two days. If it hadn’t been Serbs who were burning, someone would have said or done something. Sixteen years ago, everyone turned their heads away from the Serbs in Kosovo and Metohija, and even the then authorities in Belgrade failed to send armed forces or at least set them in motion – the Minister of Defence Aleksandar Vulin said today.
He emphasized that "no one was prosecuted for the crimes and the expelled Serbs never returned."
- The lie that started it all, that the Serbs used their dogs to force Shiptar children into the Ibar River, was never denied and those who spread the lie did not apologize. Serbia must not stop remembering and reminding, and countries that have recognized the false state of Kosovo must not pretend that their protégés did not carry out the first major ethnic cleansing with impunity in the 21st century. Anyone who remained silent during the 2004 pogrom against the Serbs is equally responsible as those who burned down churches and people - said Minister Vulin.
