Delegation of the Ministry of Defense and the Serbian Armed Forces laid wreaths on the occasion of the Defenders of Fatherland Day
Delegation of the Ministry of Defense and the Serbian Armed Forces laid a wreath today at the New Cemetery near the Monument to the Liberators of Belgrade and the Monument to the Soviet Soldier and attended the wreath laying ceremony at the Memorial Ossuary to the Russian soldiers killed in the First World War on the occasion of the holiday of the Russian Federation – National Defenders of the Fatherland Day.
Russian Ambassador Alexander Bocan-Kharchenko, Ambassador of the Republic of Belarus Valery Brilev, Ambassador of the Republic of Kazakhstan Gabit Sizdikbekov, representatives of the Embassy of Azerbaijan, the City of Belgrade and the Ministry of Labor, Employment, Veterans and Social Affairs also laid their wreaths.
1.395 members of the National Liberation Army of Yugoslavia and 818 members of the Red Army fighters, who died fighting shoulder to shoulder for the liberation of Belgrade in World War II have been laid to rest at the Memorial Cemetery of the Liberators of Belgrade.
Defenders of the Fatherland Day is a holiday that for the Russians is a symbol of the heroic history of the state, the unity of the people and the armed forces, the glory and patriotism of the Russian armed forces. On that day, the Russians pay tribute to the soldiers, veterans of the armed forces and navy, the families of those who used to be and those still serve in the military ranks.
