Anniversary of death of King Milan Obrenovič marked




Today, in the Krušedol Monastery on Fruska Gora, a delegation of the Ministry of Defence and the Serbian Armed Forces laid a wreath at the tomb of King Milan Obrenović, marking the 119th anniversary of his death.
 
The ceremony was led by State Secretary in the Ministry of Labour, Employment, Veteran and Social Affairs Svetozar Aleksov.
 
The organiser of the state ceremony is the Government Committee for cherishing tradition of liberation wars of Serbia, and wreaths were also laid by representatives of the Provincial Secretariat for Culture, Public Information and Relations with Religious Communities, Irig Municipality, associations dedicated to cherishing the tradition of the Serbian liberation wars and citizens.
 
King Milan Obrenovic ruled Serbia from 1868 to 1889. During this period several liberation wars were waged, and Serbia gained international recognition by the decisions of the Berlin Congress held on 13th July 1878. King Milan died in Vienna on 11th February 1901, and he was buried in the tomb in the Krušedol Monastery o
on Fruska Gora.
