Private 1st Class Uroš Ždero receives Special Plaque for the Noblest Feat of the Year
At the Belgrade City Hall, plaques for the noblest feat of the year have been officially presented and it has been for the 57th time that Večernje Novosti daily presented them to individuals and organisations that marked the year behind us with their heroic, humane and selfless deeds.
At the ceremony attended by Defence Minister Aleksandar Vulin and his associates, apart from other high officials, it was announced that the jury, chaired by Academician Matija Bećković, had decided that the silver plaque should go to the hands of the Serbian Armed Forces Private 1st Class Uroš Ždero.
The gold plaque for the noblest individual feat went to 26-year-old Nikola Subašić, who saved life of his best friend when he decided to give him a part of his liver and kidney. The flattering recognition of the noblest collective endeavour was given to the “believing people and clergy of the Serbian Orthodox Church in Montenegro”, because of, as it is states, “the images that are to be remembered and which are testimonies of faith and perseverance in the defence of the sanctuaries”.
The golden plaque for the noblest children’s feat was awarded to Anastasia Vujić, as well as the one for the noblest feat which is awarded posthumously - to Darko Vujošević, who died helping family to escape during the storm on Skadar Lake.
Welcoming those present at today's ceremony, congratulating the heroes, editor-in-chief of Večernje Novosti daily, Milorad Vučelić emphasised that these were only those whose feats were recorded.
- Many more are out of our sight, and they testify, from the head, heart and soul, to the true face of our people, adorned with kindness, faith, a sense of duty, as well as strength of character and heroism - Vučelić said.
Chairman of the Jury, Academician Matija Bećković, emphasised that the feats are always new, unique and unrepeatable.
Serbian Armed Forces Private 1st Class Uroš Ždero said he was proud to be in the company of the most humane people in Serbia, and that he would not have even today the dilemma of whether to help a person in need.
Members of the Serbian Armed Forces in the year behind us, as many times before, have repeatedly shown humanity by helping citizens in the most difficult situations, often risking their lives, thus proving that Serbia can always count on its army.
