Celebration of the Day of Media Centre “Odbrana”
Day of the Media Centre “Odbrana” and the 141st anniversary of the military printing activity in Serbia were observed by a celebration organised in the Central Military Club in Belgrade, which was attended by State Secretary in the Ministry of Defence Aleksandar Živković and numerous guests.
State Secretary Živković congratulated the holiday to the members of the Media Centre “Odbrana” on behalf of Minister of Defence Aleksandar Vulin saying that “today, and in the years behind us, the Media Centre “Odbrana” successfully executes its assigned mission in journalist-information, cultural-artistic and publishing sphere, by which it significantly contributes to promotion of work results of the Ministry of Defence and Serbian armed Forces, and promotion of values built in the foundation of our national being”.
- This house of Serbian military ethos projects the voice of our armed forces, which is in harmony with the values upon which the Serbian state has rested since the beginning. The Media Centre “Odbrana” certainly deserves its share of credit for the fact that the Serbian Armed Forces enjoy the greatest confidence of the citizens, which makes us proud since our task is to serve our country and our people – Živković stated.
Readiness of the armed forces to discharge their tasks through missions assigned to them, is presented to the public owing to the truthful, verified and responsible reporting at the pages of the magazine “Odbrana” – said State Secretary Živković, adding that the Media Centre “Odbrana” as military publishing house also enjoys a notable reputation in Serbia.
- This establishment, inspired by traditions, concurrently keeping step with modern trends, has grown, in all fields of its activities, into a unique guardian of military values and memories of rich history of Serbian army which is something that makes us all proud – Živković pointed out.
Addressing the gathered, Director of Media Centre “Odbrana” Colonel Stevica Karapandžin stressed that owing to dedicated work of all its members, the Media Centre “Odbrana” had succeeded in 2019 as well in providing contribution to reputation of the Ministry of Defence and Serbian Armed Forces.
- We are confident that there will be no lack of understanding and support for our efforts, so that we could all together, in the time ahead of us, remain worthy of our ancestors and respond well to the expectations of the generations to come – Colonel Karapandžin stated.
According to established tradition, Journalist reward “Ivan Marković” was presented at today’s ceremony for the best journalist coverage in 2019. State Secretary Aleksandar Živković presented the award to Rade Dragović, author of the text “400 Tanks of the Yugoslav Armed Forces Crawled Out Intact – to NATO’s shock” published in the magazine “Večernje Novosti” on 9th June 2019.
This year, a Special Recognition was awarded to editorial office of “Sputnik” for the film series dedicated to the 20th anniversary of defence against NATO aggression, which provide rather considerable and documentary overview of political and military events over 78 days of aggression against the FR Yugoslavia. State Secretary Živković also presented the recognition to Chief Editor of Sputnik Lubinka Milinčić.
Traditional recognition for the associate of the year – Plaque of the Ministry of Defence, was awarded to Belgrade Fair. The recognition was presented to Assistant Director General of Belgrade Fair Miodrag Vulević by Head of Public Relations Department Colonel Mihajlo Zogović.
Plaque of the Media Centre “Odbrana” for the associate of the year of the magazine “Odbrana” went to Vlada Radulović, while the author of the year in the field of publishing activity went to Dževad Galijašević, author of a book “Land of Hopelessness – Bosnia and Herzegovina and Bosniaks between Yesterday and Tomorrow”.
Plaque of the Media Centre “Odbrana” for the associate of the year, awarded to the Gallery of Paintings “Sava Šumanović” from Šid, was received by the Gallery Director Vesna Burojević, while the Plaque awarded to the First Belgrade Singing Company, was received by the President of the Choir and Dean of the Congregational Church in Belgrade, Archpriest-Stavrophor Petar Lukić.
Day of the Media Centre “Odbrana” is marked in memory of 24th January 1879, when the first issue of military paper “Warrior” was published, whose tradition is continued by the magazine “Odbrana”.
