Day of Niš Military Hospital marked
The ceremonial academy marking the Day of the Niš Military Hospital – 22 January and 142 years since the founding of the Great Military Hospital for a thousand of wounded and sick took place today at the Central Military Club in Niš.
Head of the Military Health Department of the Ministry of Defense, Brigadier General Uglješa Jovičić, MD congratulating the holiday, emphasized that “Niš Military Hospital is an invaluable element of the military health system and that the annual results confirm the significant role of the Military Hospital in the treatment of not only the military beneficiaries of Niš and its surroundings, but also of civilians entrusting their health to military doctors.”
- Confidence was being gained over decades past, but unfortunately most often during the war. Therefore, I would like to emphasize the engagement of the Niš Military Hospital during the NATO aggression. 20 years have passed since then, but even after this much time, no word of thanks would suffice for the organized medical support at times when our people needed it. The experience gained at that time perfected not only our war surgery but also medicine in general, General Jovičić pointed out.
According to the director of the Niš Military Hospital, Colonel Jovica Stanojković, MD “responsible work is taking place with regards to staffing, technical and infrastructural equipping; medical equipment for intensive care units and operating theatres have been renewed and completed, and the pace of admission of young doctors and medical technicians, to whom knowledge and extensive experience should now be transferred, has been accelerated.”
- With the support of the Ministry of Defense, the first steps were taken in the realization of the preliminary design and construction of the Emergency Reception Block, which will significantly raise the level of functional capability of the Military Hospital, Colonel Stanojković said.
Today’s ceremony was also attended by representatives of the Command of the Land Forces and Niš garrison units, representatives of the City of Niš, religious communities and representatives of the local self-government, military-medical and civilian health institutions.
A special cultural and artistic programme was performed at the ceremony, incentive measures were awarded, while plaques for exceptional cooperation were given to Hajji Ivan Redi and the widow of the recently deceased sculptor Miroljub Kostić.
The decision of the Serbian Academy of Sciences and Arts to make 2020 the year of doctor Vladan Đorđević also determined the spirit of the ceremony on the occasion of the Day of the Military Hospital in Niš, especially since Vladan Đorđević was also the first director of the Niš Military Hospital. In his honor, at the entrance to the Military Hospital, a bust was erected that was designed and made by Hajji Ivan Redi and sculptor Miroljub Kostić.
