State Secretary Živković meets Admiral Foggo

State Secretary Aleksandar Živković has met today with the Commander of the NATO Joint Force Command in Naples, Admiral James Foggo.

At the meeting, State Secretary Živković emphasized that Serbia is a militarily neutral country and that cooperation with NATO under the auspices of the Partnership for Peace programme is the optimal framework.

He added that Serbia is committed to resolving all issues peacefully through discussions with Pristina for the better life of citizens in Kosovo and Metohija, while protecting its sovereignty and territorial integrity and full respect for Security Council Resolution 1244 and the Military Technical Agreement.

State Secretary Živković also emphasized that the formation of the so-called “Kosovo armed forces” is absolutely unacceptable for Serbia and that KFOR is the only guarantor of security in the territory of Kosovo and Metohija in accordance with the Resolution 1244. KFOR is the only and first responder in all situations where security of non-Albanian population is endangered and, in that respect, Serbia opposes reduction in KFOR troop numbers, Živković emphasised.

Admiral Foggo praised the economic progress of our country, as well as the professionalism of members of the Serbian Armed Forces. He confirmed that peace and stability in the Western Balkans would continue to be maintained through joint efforts. He also said that the lines between the Serbian Armed Forces and NATO have been constantly open in order to achieve constant communication and cooperation on the ground.

The meeting was also attended by Milan Ranković, acting assistant minister of defence for Defence Policy, and Brigadier General Predrag Bandić, head of Military Mission of the Republic of Serbia to NATO.
