Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić extends congratulations on Veterans Day
I extend my sincere congratulations to all veterans as they celebrate 4th December – the Veterans Day.
By signing the ceasefire in the First Balkan War, on 4th December 1912, Serbia achieved its historic victory. On this date, more than a hundred years ago, the care for veterans and meeting their needs was taken over by the Ministry of War. Thus the Government of the Kingdom of Serbia expressed its gratitude and honoured its freedom fighters. We continue this tradition today, both at the level of the Ministry of Defence and the Serbian Armed Forces, and the entire state.
The Ministry of Defence and the Serbian Armed Forces have included Military Veterans Day among the biggest military holidays to show by the culture of remembrance that the sacrifice of all members of the Army they gave for our Serbia were not in vain.
With a firm determination to preserve from oblivion all those who have made memorable deeds in past wars and for our people in difficult times, I am convinced that we will no longer have to wage war and be involved in armed conflicts to defend our homeland from the enemy.
With gratitude and respect, dear veterans, I wish you happy holiday!
