Congratulatory Message from the Minister of Defence on the Veterans Day
I extend my sincere congratulations to all veterans on the occasion of 4th December – the Veterans Day.
The Veterans Day was established to commemorate the day when a ceasefire in the First Balkan War was signed. Continuing the tradition of ancient warriors of the Army of the Kingdom of Serbia, choosing this date for Veterans Day ensured continuity with veterans from the time in 1912, when the Kingdom of Serbia, as a modern state, engaged part of its population in the war along with all material and financial reserves while creating the Balkans alliance with their neighbours.
By putting the well-being of the homeland in front of the most valuable thing they had, their life, the veterans have made an invaluable contribution to the history of our military as well as the entire state. Thanks to you who are present here and those who have sadly gone, we live freely today.
I congratulate you on your holiday, wishing that the casualties from combat operations never occur again and that the Ministry of Defence and the Serbian Armed Forces, as one of the factors of the defence system, contribute to the preservation of peace both in the country and in the region and beyond.
