Minister's interview to Vecernje Novosti

These are the key notes made by Dragan Suitanovac in his interview to Vecernje Novosti who, after his return from Iraq, was faced with turbulences and conflicts in Cvetkovic’s cabinet.
ON what do you base your allegations that the ruling coalition will remain in power, given that it does not have the majority vote on the proposed Law on Informing? Is 31 August the D Day for this government?
I believe that the MPs will support the Proposed Act on Informing.
But according to the current affairs, this will need the support of LDP MPs. Will the government, in order to ensure survival, play with jokers up its sleeve?
- I expect all the proposed laws, which will be sent in the future to the Parliament for adoption, to be adopted. It is upon those who are in charge of the Parliament who are tasked with the adoption of the law.
G 17 plus party is accusing the socialists of subverting the coalition announcing that they would leave the coalition. Is this acceptable for DS?
- I do not think that there are such ideas. Everyone who thinks they can topple the government in such a way is wrong, as this government is to last and persevere through the whole mandate, as a majority government.
-
Will the minister of finance Diana Dragutinovic be demoted after her statements which deviate from the agreed upon policy?
- No, as at this moment we have much more important things to do than the reconstruction of the government. Of course, every minister can have their ideas within their department, however they have to fit into the Prime Minister’s concept who designs the policy of the cabinet. If someone makes a proposal which is not in line with the concept of prime Minister that is no reason why they should be deposed.
will all these turbulences in the government end in elections?
- I do not see any possibility for any elections before their due time, especially not this year, given the economic crisis. Who would benefit from running an election campaign for months, as I am certain that this would not be in the citizens’ interest.
Nikolic is accusing DS of conducting some kind of media war against his party SNS. Are you behind this media war?
That is an interesting claim made by Nikolic. When I asked them about their stance towards the ICTY and the war criminals, they turned presented this question as an attack on their party. Their ultimate goal is to gain power, and they use all means to do so. They should work on modernizing their policy which still relies on the stances upheld in 1990s, and they should also strive to achieve the system of values of modern societies. This is a piece of advice, not criticism. No one from DS is waging some kind of media war on them.
Is your part taken aback or even frighten by the sudden soaring of this part’s rating?
That is not my impression, and personally I ma not frightened. In 12 years since I entered politics, I learned that unreliable research are frequently placed in the public, and I am not troubled by that.
However, they won the local election poll in the Belgrade municipality of Vozodovac.
- We did not employ all our capacities to win these local elections, and if we had neglected all our obligations, and focused on this we would have won, however, opposition leaders do not hold state functions, so they can focus on their campaigns in full.
