Abuse of human health is not the solution to the problem at Bristol

The irresponsible behaviour of some politicians continues, where Balša Božović of the Democratic Party (DS) leads the way with excessive abuse of fate of the persons who stayed at the former Bristol Hotel. He goes so far as to wish the deterioration of the health of those persons in order to use it for his narrow political interests and as a new argument in accusing the Ministry of Defence. Balša Božović blames the Ministry of Defence and the minister in advance for possible worsening of health of the hunger strikers. It is clear that neither the Ministry of Defence nor the minister can be held responsible, as they are those who offer the correct and lawful solution, but the responsibility is on Balša Božović who continues to push those persons into deepening the problem, for which he proposes only illegal solutions.

Taking care of health of the people in Bristol who went on hunger strike, the Ministry of Defence formed an on-call medical team that visits them several times a day and provides medical assistance if necessary. Yesterday, all persons were examined and no health problems were identified. Assistance was provided also to J.M. who is not on hunger strike but she has been taken care of at the MMA due to her poor health and her health condition is stable.

The Ministry of Defence again, clearly and consistently, calls upon those who have stayed in Bristol to move into apartments they have already visited in Block A, Vračar and Zvezdara in accordance with the rights they exercise.

However, only four of them responded to the invitation to all those staying in Bristol to speak with representatives of the Ministry of Defence in order to find a solution. Others seem to be not interested, but they rather cling to the false promises of politicians, not seeing or not wanting to see that these politicians in all this are looking for only a new opportunity to gain political points. Only these points are very cheap and, at worst, they try to gain them by abusing the fate and health of the people.

On the contrary, the Ministry of Defence remains consistently with the position that the issue of the housing solution for persons in Bristol should be resolved within the laws and established procedures which were presented to them, respecting the unified housing waiting list for those interested within the Ministry of Defence and the Serbian Armed Forces including 18,000 persons. In the event that persons who stayed at Bristol get permanent housing solution, other housing stakeholders would have the right to sue the Ministry of Defence and win the lawsuit. Due to similar violations of the law in 2008, the Ministry of Defence paid RSD 6 billion in the last two years for court judgments on claims of discrimination against reservists. That is why such violations will not be repeated in this or in any other case.

This time too, the Ministry of Defence reiterates its call upon Bristol residents to accept the proposed solution, irresponsible politicians not to abuse the fate and health of those who stayed in Bristol, as it is doing them harm, misleading the public and creating a distorted picture of the substance of the problem, for which they offer only illegal solutions, unlike the Ministry of Defence that seeks to address this problem lawfully and to no one's detriment.
