Opening of the 7th Sports Championship of the Serbian Armed Forces
Today, Chief of General Staff of the Serbian Armed Forces General Milan Mojsilović opened the 7th Sports Competition of the Serbian Armed Forces at the sport terrains of the Military Academy in the barracks “General Jovan Mišković” in Belgrade.
Opening the competition, Chief of General Staff General Mojsilović underlined that strengthening, developing and promoting physical training and sports raises the level of capabilities of units and groups for execution of assigned missions and tasks.
- Through their conduct, the previous competitions largely contributed to making sports and sport competition central events in our units and also the members of the Serbian Armed Forces and Ministry of Defence, through participation and preparations for later competitions achieved results which are a reflection of high physical preparedness – General Mojsilović pointed out adding that the Sports Championship of the Serbian Armed Forces was an excellent opportunity to demonstrate how great importance was attached to physical capabilities and sports in general and what great progress had been made by applying new, modern standards for evaluating those capabilities.
At the beginning of today’s event, Staff Sergeant Dalibor Anđelković, the first ranking competitor in “military decathlon” at the 6th Sports Championship of the Serbian Armed Forces raised the state flag together with Sergeant Major Ilija Čorugić the first ranking competitor in shooting event “rifle” at the 6th Sports Championship of the Serbian Armed Forces.
In the next four days, the sports terrains and arenas will be the venues for the competition of teams from the Army, General Staff, Air Forces and Air Defence, Training Command and Ministry of Defence, and the medal awarding ceremony and closing ceremony are going to be held on 31st May.
The opening ceremony was attended by state secretaries in the Ministry of Defence Aleksandar Živković and Bojan Jocić, members of Expanded Board of the Chief of General Staff, representatives of the Ministry of Defence and Serbian Armed Forces and numerous guests from sport and public domain.
