First Showing of a Documentary Film “Momčilo”

A documentary film “Momčilo”, testifying bravery of the youngest Serbian corporal Momčilo Gavrilović, was presented this evening for the first time in the hall of the Yugoslav Film Archive in Belgrade. The author of the film, coproduced with the Military Film Centre “Zastava Film” and “Tangram Entertainment” House, is Milan Popović, while the project was supported by the Danube Insurance and the City of Belgrade.

According to one of the producers of the film “Momčilo”, Director of the Military Film Centre “Zastava Film” Lieutenant Colonel Goran Ikonić, the film is another work in line of works dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the Great War and it is a project which “Zastava Film” accepted having in mind that it deals with the tradition of Serbian military.

The film story about the youngest hero of the Great War is narrated by a ten-year-old boy Momčilo, who, fortunately, has learned about the war only through playing video games. When the author of the film visits him virtually, they embark on an amazing adventure, revealing one to the other the facts about the unusual destiny and heroism of Momčilo Gavrilović.

Uncommon structure of the film easily corresponds to the widest audience, and it is particularly attractive to schoolchildren, since it offers knowledge about history in an interesting and accessible way making it easy to learn and adopt.

The role of Momčilo is played by Aleksa Gitarić, while Alek Rodić appears in the film as Field Marshal Mišić.
Tonight’s premier is symbolically organised to mark the Day of the Serbian Armed Forces – 23rd April and the date of birth (1st May 1906) and death (28th April 1993) of Momčilo Gavrilović.
