COMMUNICATION

In accordance with the the programme of activities marking 20 years of defence against the NATO aggression, the defence attachés of the Republic of Serbia have organised a series of events in the past period, in order to remind once again the international public and colleagues from the military diplomatic corps of the unpleasant events of two decades ago when our country and people were exposed to great suffering.

At the Cultural Centre of Serbia in Paris, on 26th March 2019, a public discussion was organised, hosted by Colonel Miroslav Nikolić, Serbian Defence Attaché in Paris, with the support of our embassy and the centre itself. We emphasise that the defence attaché received consent from the embassy for using the space, and that the arrangement itself was under the competence of the Cultural Centre whose representatives were previously acquainted with the programme of the public discussion.

After the address of the Serbian defence attaché, the officials were presented a shorter documentary about the NATO aggression depicting the terrible destruction that our country was exposed to during the 78 days of bombing and suffering of the civilian population – from demolishing bridges, throwing cluster bombs to civilians, destroying factories, roads and other infrastructure. Retired French officer Jacques Hogard, author of the book “Europe died in Pristina” spoke at the public discussion, testifying about his stay in Kosovo and Metohija after the NATO aggression.

Apart from the representatives of our embassy and the Cultural Centre, the public discussion was attended by representatives of the Embassy of Bosnia and Herzegovina, members of the French Armed Forces, military diplomatic corps from the Russian Federation, USA, Greece, Romania, Portugal, Cyprus, Algeria, Lithuania, Argentina, Peru and Chile, Chairman of Andre Maginot National Federation, retired Admiral Henri Lakay and representatives of the Association of Serbs in France.

We would like to note that the documentary about NATO aggression was also shown in the defence attaché’s offices of the Republic of Serbia in Ankara, Budapest, Washington, Moscow, Berlin, Skopje ... The film does not cause pleasant feelings, but shows the true events of 1999.

We remind that the basic tasks of our military diplomatic representatives are: to represent the Ministry of Defence and the Serbian Armed Forces abroad, represent the interests of our country and spread the truth about our past. These are the foundations on which our military attachés worked as they where those who were at posts in 1999 defending their homeland, while today they are spreading exactly the truth about the events of that time.
