Morava becomes civilian-military airport as of today

- The faith of that year 2010 that this will really happen has almost fade out, however, as you could see, this is the government that fulfills promises, and President Aleksandar Vučić was very clear that the Kraljevo airport must be open and must be ready for the commercial flights to the satisfaction of all citizens of Kraljevo. This is a great opportunity for Kraljevo and the whole region to connect with the rest of the world, to intoduce Kraljevo to the world and to show all what the city and the whole region can offer and that all our people can be sure that the world will be closer to them, just as we will be closer to the world – Defence Minister Aleksandar Vulin said as he has visited the complex of the airport building of the Morava Airport in Kraljevo today together with the Serbian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Construction, Transport and Infrastructure Zorana Mihajlović.
On that occasion, Ministers Vulin and Mihajlović attended the signing of the reports between the commander of the 98th Aviation Brigade of AF&AD Colonel Dejan Vasiljević and the director of the Airports of Serbia company, Zoran Pavlović, on the review and condition of the real estate of the Morava Airport and together they unveiled the board of the airport.

Minister Vulin expressed great satisfaction that today he can say what the citizens of Kraljevo and the whole region and the district have long expected and dreamed of. Speaking about its significance for the Serbian Armed Forces, Minister Vulin stressed that neither its functionality nor ability will be reduced.

- This will be a civilian-military airport, which means that the 98th Aviation Brigade will continue to take care of the safety of our skies and be there to help and preserve whenever necessary. We can all be sure that we are calm and safe, because the Serbian Armed Forces, thanks to the great investment of the line ministry, for which I especially wish to thank, will provide us better conditions, to work better, and to be able to fly in all weather conditions – Minister Vulin said.

According to him, stability and security of the country is preserved and improved, and the civilians are enabled to work, to develop and create.

- This is a big and important day for Kraljevo, a big and important day for Serbia and a great and important day for the Serbian Armed Forces – Minister Vulin said.

First of all, Minister Mihajlović thanked Minister Vulin for his tremendous work, support and assistance so that today it could be said from this place here that, as of Friday, the airport in Kraljevo is a mixed civilian-military airport.

- On the present day, we have signed the handover reports and we are going to make the civilian part of the airport so operational that on 28th June we can have on this runway Boeing 737 planes that will both take off and land here – Minister Mihajlović pointed out, adding that cargo centre has also been planned.
Colonel Vasiljević emphasized that, above all, there have been significant infrastructure investments in Morava Airport – in the manoeuvring areas, the runway, taxiways and links and investments in light signaling and navigation devices at this airport.

- This will enable us in the future to conduct flight crew training in far more complex conditions and exploit this airport at full capacity - commander of the 98th Aviation Brigade emphasised.

According to the plan, by the St. Vitus' Day this year, all works at the mixed civilian-military airport, including the extension of the runway, its lighting, as well as certain works on equipping the passenger terminal, with a total value of around 8 million euro, should be completed.

Head of administrative district of Raška, Nebojša Simović, Mayor of Kraljevo Predrag Terzić, and Major General Duško Žarković, Commander of Air Force and Air Defence, were also present at the signing ceremony and tour of the Morava Airport.

On 22nd February, in Kraljevo, Minister Aleksandar Vulin and director of Aerodromi Srbije company, Zoran Pavlović, signed a contract on the use of a part of the Morava airport for commercial flights, which also included Kraljevo in the map of cities in Serbia that have a civil airline with the world.
