Marking Air Force and Air Defense Day
Air Force and Air Defense Day – 24 December, was marked today at the airport “Batajnica”. The ceremony was attended by Brigadier General Sava Milenković, Deputy Commander of the Air Force and Air Defense, representatives of the Ministry of Defense and the Serbian Armed Forces, the Serbian Orthodox Church, retired members of this armed service, as well as members of the families of heroes, members of the Air Force and Air Defense, who laid their lives on the altar of the homeland.
Congratulatory messages on the occasion of the event were sent by the President of the Republic of Serbia, Aleksandar Vučić, the Minister of Defense, Aleksandar Vulin, and the Chief of General Staff of the Serbian Armed Forces, Lieutenant-General Milan Mojsilović.Recalling the glorious tradition, General Milenković pointed out that we have a lasting task and obligation to cherish and preserve the memories of those who gave their lives in defense of their homeland, as well as their actions and achievements.
- From the Balkan Wars, through the First and Second World Wars, the Wars at the territory of the former SFRY, as well as 1999 in the fight against the NATO aggression to the present day, the history of the armed service was written by generations of pilots, air defense, VOJIN personnel, technicians and specialists of various profiles – said General Milenković and added that we can be proud of all of them, as they have always been up to the task and placed love for the homeland and freedom before their own lives.
He pointed out that over the past year, the MiG-29 and LASTA aircraft have been introduced into operational use. Overhaul and extension of resources on the part of aircraft and rocket technical equipment has been completed. He especially emphasized the participation in the exercise “Century of Victors 1918-2018”, where eight MiG-29s were flown simultaneously.The results achieved this year, General Milenkovic emphasized, guarantee that the next year is going to be even more successful, a year in which we can expect equipping with key combat assets, MiG-29 airplanes, Mi-17 and H145 multi-purpose helicopters, combat helicopters Mi-35 and modern rocket systems.
The Air Force and the Air Defense Day were also marked at the airport “Lađevci” and in the barracks “Banjica-2” with ceremonial line ups.
The Air Force and the Air Defense Day is celebrated on 24 December, the day when the Air Force Command in Niš was established in 1912.
