REGEX 18 Distinguished Visitors Day
The Distinguished Visitors Day at the multinational command post exercise REGEX 18 has been held today in the Simulations Training Centre of the Training and Doctrine Department of the General Staff of the Serbian Armed Forces, in Banjica 2 barracks.
Major General Petar Cvetković, Deputy Chief of General Staff of the Serbian Armed Forces with associates, military diplomatic and military representatives of armed forces of the participating states, visited the participants in the exercise.
Welcoming the representatives of foreign armed forces and civil organizations, General Cvetković emphasized that by organizing and participating in such exercises, Serbia demonstrates its neutrality and commitment to cooperate with all relevant partners in preserving stability and security in the region.
- This exercise, one of the largest in Serbia in the current year, proves our need to be part of the international community and we are training for joint engagement in multinational operations. We are honoured to be recognised as someone who can organise such a complex and dynamic exercise and I believe that we justified the trust, said the deputy chief of the Serbian Armed Forces General Staff.
Brigadier General Reinhard Kloss of the NATO Joint Force Command in Naples thanked the Serbian Armed Forces for hosting the REGEX 18 exercise.
- NATO provides numerous experts from various fields to provide support to all participants and management of the exercise, through all stages of planning and realisation - General Klos said.
Chief of the Simulations Training Centre and exercise director Colonel Mičo Branković pointed out that its preparation lasted several months.
- It was from the participation of members of the Serbian Armed Forces and partner countries in various peacekeeping missions that we gathered sufficient knowledge and experience needed for successful planning and organisation of the exercise, and it was important to show effective work during the preparation and realisation of the exercise in all its segments, Colonel Branković said.
According to Saša Avram, expert associate of the Red Cross of Serbia , the goal of their participation was to make the exercise environment as realistic and dynamic as possible in order to fit the reality more closely.
- Experience from such a multinational environment can be exploited in some other situations that require the simultaneous operation of military forces and civilian actors - Avram said.
The aim of the Serbian Army's participation in the REGEX Initiative is to develop interoperability in the area of training and develop capabilities for planning joint exercises with the armed forces of the countries of the region and other NATO Members and participants in the Partnership for Peace programme.
Apart from members of the Serbian Armed Forces, members of the Special Anti-terrorist Unit of the Ministry of Interior, representatives of international organizations (UN Office in Belgrade, UNICEF, UNHCR, OSCE, International Committee of the Red Cross), the Commissariat for Refugees, the Red Cross of Serbia and about 60 members of the armed forces from 15 countries also take part in REGEX 18.
The exercise, which is held this year in our country, is the fifth edition of REGEX command post exercise since 2014. In the previous years it was held in Turkey, Greece, Bosnia and Herzegovina and Jordan, and the next is in Macedonia.
