Minister Vulin: I will always protect anyone who is working for the state
- I will always pledge that the man who works for the state is protected. I will always pledge myself and if I have to bear the consequences, I will bear them, but those who worked for the state should be protected. Every employee of the VBA must know that his country is with him, that his Ministry is with him, and he should only do his job in accordance with the law and in no other way. A state cannot be managed differently; it is not possible that anyone who works for the state is punished and sold – Defence Minister Aleksandar Vulin said answering, in the House of the National Assembly, the question of MP Marinika Tepić, referring to the judgment of the Misdemeanour Court in which he, as a responsible person in the Ministry of Defence, was ordered to pay a fine because he did not respond to requests addressed under the Law on Free Access to Information of Public Importance.
Minister Vulin pointed out that he thought that he was asked to hand over a copy of a report, which was created immediately after the beatings of Andrej Vučić and Mr Mali's brother.
- It is asked that we give the name of the VBA operative who made the report, to give the report containing the names of witnesses who told what they had to tell and what they saw at that moment, and you expect of me, as a minister, to hand over this man to you – Minister Vulin emphasised assessing it as unacceptable.
- Why would I give the name of a military security operative who made the appropriate record, why would the names of witnesses be known to the general public – so that someone could be able to tell them to change their opinion that they did not see what they saw. Should any VBA or BIA operative or member of any other service be afraid tomorrow that someone might reval his name and when he compiles the report he should think whether what he has compiled would be liked tomorrow by someone who will seek his name and ask that the results of his work appear in public. I do not know any secret police or the police in general that is coming up during the trial with the names of people working in the court proceedings, with witnesses, with potential witnesses, with anything relevant for a procedure. I do not know if you would ask for all this if it was not Andrej Vučić and if it was not him who was beaten. Maybe you would behave differently, but as I see, when it is about brother of the president who was so brutally beaten, then you are looking for witnesses and those who worked on the case – Minister Vulin said.
According to him, the court did not discuss at all whether they made a mistake, but had issued the verdict, because it stated that “you did not respond within the deadline”.
- That is their right, and of course, I will observe the law unconditionally, as I have observed it my whole life, I will pay the fine, and if after my appeal the court decides so, that is their right – Minister Vulin emphasized.
