State Secretary at the Ministry of Defence, Aleksandar Živkovic, has met today with the Ambassador of the Czech Republic, Tomáš Kuchta. The meeting was an opportunity to discuss key issues of bilateral defence cooperation between the two countries.
As the State Secretary Živković pointed out, the Ministry of Defence and the Serbian Armed Forces were determined to further develop cooperation in the field of defence with the Czech Republic, bearing in mind that the overall bilateral relations have been very good and in the last years they have had a tendency of constant rise. He recalled that this year marks 100 years since the establishment of diplomatic relations between Serbia and the Czech Republic, expressing satisfaction that our two countries will jointly mark this significant jubilee. State Secretary Živković also thanked for the high degree of solidarity of citizens in the Czech Republic, since their humanitarian, financial and technical assistance after the floods of 2014 meant a lot to Serbia.
The Republic of Serbia, State Secretary Živković emphasized during today's meeting, is fully committed to military neutrality, in accordance with the National Assembly Resolution, with the conviction that this is the right measure of relations with all interested parties.
State Secretary Živković also pointed out that the Republic of Serbia is against imposing the recognition of independence of the so-called Kosovo as a condition for the EU accession process, and is committed to continuing the dialogue with Pristina, for fulfilling of what was agreed, but also for reaching a lasting solution by compromise.
He also stressed that the announced transformation of the Kosovo Security Forces to the so-called Kosovo Armed Forces, which is considered a flagrant violation of UNSCR 1244 and the Military Technical Agreement from Kumanovo, is unacceptable for the Republic of Serbia.
During today's meeting, Ambassador Kuchta pointed out the possibility of improving military-economic cooperation, cooperation in the area of CBRN, as well as continuing cooperation in the domain of responding to challenges caused by natural disasters.
Ambassador Kuchta also stressed that the Embassy of the Czech Republic, in order to make further cooperation more concrete, plans to organize promotion of the capacity of Czech companies in our country.
