Cycling Team of the members of the Serbian Armed Forces Started their Journey Following the “Path of Thessaloniki Warriors”





Yesterday, a cycling team of the members of the Serbian Armed Forces started they journey to Thessaloniki, where from a realisation of the project “Following the Path of Thessaloniki Warriors – Free Sons” starts – which is a ride from the Serbian military cemetery “Zeitenlik” to Belgrade.
 
Head of Department for Tradition, Standard and Veterans of the Material Resources Sector in the Ministry of Defence, Colonel Slađan Ristić, attended the send-off of the cycling team on behalf of the Ministry of Defence, which was held in front of the Town Assembly in Pančevo and wished them a successful realisation of the project and safe journey.
 
The Project “Following the Path of Thessaloniki Warriors – Free Sons” is organised by the association “Friends of the 72nd Special”, and supported by the Ministry of Defence of the Republic of Serbia. The start of the bicycle ride from Thessaloniki is planned for today, and the 14 member team, headed by retired Colonel Miodrag Kapor, will ride the bicycles over Kajmakčalan, Bregalnica, Vranje, Čegar, Niš, Jagodina and Oplenac to Belgrade, more precisely the memorial “Osmatračnica sa Kajmakčalana“ (Observing post from Kajmakčalan) in the Pioneer Park where they are expected to arrive in the evening of 23rd September.
 
The aim of the project “Following the Path of Thessaloniki Warriors – Free Sons” is to value, safeguard and develop military traditions of liberation wars and to maintain the monuments along the road which the team will pass by.
