Commemoration of the 212th Anniversary of the Battle on Mišar

Today, a delegation of the Ministry of Defence and Serbian Armed Forces laid a wreath at the Monument to Karađorđe and the Heroes of Mišar to commemorate the 212th anniversary of the Battle of Mišar.

At the Monument in Mišar near Šabac, the wreaths were laid by State Secretary in the Ministry of Labour, Employment, Veteran and Social Affairs, Negovan Stanković, who led the state ceremony, representatives of the town of Šabac, and of the associations and citizens who cherish the tradition of liberation wars in Serbia.

The Battle of Mišar, which took place on 13th August 1806, is one of the most important victories in the Uprising over the units of regular armed forces of the Ottoman Empire. Led by War Lord Karađorđe and prominent leaders of Šabac and Valjevo regions, the Serbs won a brilliant victory which strengthened the position of the rebels and dramatically jeopardised the status of the Turks in the Belgrade Pashalik.
