Marking 201st anniversary of the death of Đorđe Petrović - Karađorđe
The delegation of the Ministry of Defence and the Serbian Armed Forces has laid a wreath today in the church of St. George at Oplenac near Topola, marking the 201st anniversary of the death of the leader of the First Serbian Uprising, Đorđe Petrović - Karađorđe.
Wreths were laid by the state secretary in the Ministry of Labour, Employment, Veterans and Social Policy Negovan Stanković, representatives of the Municipality of Topola, the Association for cherishing the traditions of Serbian liberation wars and the citizens.
Leader Đorđe Petrović Karađorđe, the leader of the First Serbian Uprising, was killed in Radovanjski Lug near Velika Plana on 25th July 1817. He was buried in the sarcophagus in the church of St. George at Oplenac.
