Communion of the winners of “A Letter to a Soldier-Warrior” campaign on Mt. Tara
Authors of the best works in the literary contest entitled “A Letter to a Soldier-Warrior” spent this pleasant June weekend at Tara. Twenty primary and high school students from all over Serbia, connected not only by their talent for writing but also by the inspiration they found in members of our army, as well as in our ancestors warriors, spent the award journey on this mountain beauty in conversation, socialising and walking.
Hosts on this trip, members of the Human Resources Sector of the General Staff of the Serbian Armed Forces, made efforts during this trip for young lovers of written words and their teachers to learn more about the Ministry of Defence and the Serbian Armed Forces.Besides film screenings depicting the life and work of members of our armed forces, Lieutenant Colonel Jevta Vulović presented the place and role of the Serbian Armed Forces in the society, its tasks and missions, and Master Sergeant Goran Jokanović spoke to the students about the origin and significance of the religious service in our Armed Forces.
Although they come from different parts of Serbia, talented schoolchildren quickly acquainted among themselves and became friends. Kristina Radović, a fourth-year student of the “Vuk Karadžić” High School in Trstenik, was awarded for her composition with a weekend at Mt. Tara, and she could not hide the pleasure of being among the award winners, but also to be a part of this project.
- I am glad that there has been very good atmosphere from the very beginning, and I also liked to be able to find out first-hand everything that I was interested in regarding the Armed Forces –graduate Kristina emphasized.
Uroš Mladenović from Niš, a student of the 8th grade of “Branko Miljković” Elementary School, agreed that the atmosphere on the trip was very positive.
- First of all, I am happy that I managed to win this award, especially because it was the first prize I ever received during my previous education. Before, I did not have the motivation to write, but as soon as I saw the title of the assignment, it inspired me and I immediately asked the teacher how I can participate in this contest. I am pleased that we are here with members of the Armed Forces, because they made a very nice impression on me, and I liked all this very much - Uroš said.Stefan Jović from the Kosjerić Technical School spoke about his positive impressions, emphasizing that he is especially content that he contributed by his work to marking the great jubilee of the centenary since the end of the First World War.
“I like Tara and the company at Tara and I am very happy that I have met new people”, Stefan concluded.
Tamara Ivanović, a student at the “Milunka Savić” Elementary School in Vitanovac near Kraljevo, emphasized that she was glad that among so many children who applied for the contest, she managed to be among the awardees.
- I am glad that my teacher recognized talent in me. I had a great motivation to write, because I lost a close relative in the war – Tamara was honest.
With the award-winners, there were two teachers who stayed at Mt. Tara, as well, and they also pointed out that they shared positive impressions that the students did not leave out to emphasize.
- I am honored to be here with the awarded children and I hope that such events will continue to be held in the years ahead – Bojana Peruničić, a geography teacher from “Braća Baruh” Elementary School said.
Maja Cvetković, a Serbian language and literature teacher from the 13th Belgrade High School said for the travel that it was exquisitely nice and well-organized, and that the hosts were very attentive.
- I hope that this cooperation will last for many years. The children are great, and I think that there should be as much as possible such events and literary contests, as well as cooperation between the Armed Forces and the schools - teacher Cvetković emphasized.
During this weekend, the winners of the literary contest also stayed at Mt. Zlatibor, spending their free time with teachers and members of the Serbian Armed Forces in hiking through coniferous forests and in fresh mountain air.
The literary contest “A Letter to a Soldier - Warrior” was organized on the eve of a significant jubilee – a 100 years since the end of the First World War, which will be marked by a series of events this autumn. The aim of “A Letter to a Soldier - Warrior” campaign was to encourage young people to express their feelings towards the Serbian Armed Forces nowadays through literary works, as well as to show the piety to their ancestors, participants in the First World War.
