Spring 2018 Medical Demonstration Exercise completed



 
At the Medical Services Training Centre, today, the final part of the Spring 2018 demonstration exercise was held with the theme of taking care of casualties in emergency situation, this time in the event of earthquake.  The exercise demonstrated how military medical service is used in support of the third mission of the Armed Forces in the event of earthquake.
 
Participants of the exercise, along with teachers of the organizational units of the Military Medical Academy and the commanding officers of the Medical Services Training Centre, were also cadets of the 4th class of the Medical Faculty of the Military Medical Academy of the University of Defence, as well as soldiers of the medical service on voluntary military service of the generation December 2017.
 
The final part of the exercise was attended by Major-General Prof. Mladen Vuruna, Rector of the University of Defence, Colonel Uglješa Jovičić, MD–PhD, Head of Military Medical Department, Colonel Prof. Miroslav Vukosavljević, MD–PhD, Acting Head of the MMA, and heads of organisational units.
 
Speaking about the exercise, Colonel Jovičić assessed that the exercise was very seriously prepared and professionally carried out.
 
- Cadets showed a high level of qualification and, on this occasion, I especially thank their teachers for preparing them also in the military part. Everything that is important in taking care of the injured and sick in elementary accidents could be seen on the working points - from preventive-medical measures to logistical support. It showed that we can respond to such situations at any time and that we have a bright future ahead of us, because these young people, our cadets, our future doctors, demonstrated a high level of professionalism and motivation - the head of the Military Health Department said.
 
Exercise commander, Lieutenant Colonel Branko Košević, MD singled out the participation of 29 cadets and 12 soldiers of the medical service on voluntary military service as human actors, adding that all the necessary activities were successfully completed in the preparation and carrying out of the exercise, thanks to which the intended goals were achieved.
 
The medical exercise, which began on 21st May, took place at the work stations - the departments of the light field hospital. Observers today were able to visit the distribution centre and the admission-triage department, to inform about the work of the preventive-medical and psychological-psychiatric medical team in the area affected by the earthquake, as well as the work of the pharmacy and the evacuation department.
 
On this occasion, the activities of surgical mobile teams were shown as well as care at the dispensary of the training medical treatment facility Role 2. The last working point of today's presentation was a medical receiver developed on the MMA helicopter, where the injured were evacuated by air - the Mi-17 helicopter.
 
At the same time, an exercise of the Balkan Medical Task Force took place in the area of ​​the Banjica barracks - evaluation of the light field hospital. For these purposes the light field hospital was developed, which was donated by the Kingdom of Norway. Members of the medical services from six countries - Macedonia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Slovenia, Montenegro, Albania and Serbia participated in its work.
 
Lieutenant Colonel MD Nikola Zec, Commander of the light field hospital pointed out that this is primarily a surgical hospital - there are two surgical teams in it and it is possible to perform two to three surgeries a day and five to six smaller ones. The hospital has a reception-triage module, a laboratory, a diagnostic part, an intensive care unit.
 
Colonel Jovičić, Head of the Military Medical Department, visited the modules of that hospital and wished the representatives of the Balkan Medical Task Force successful work.
