The International Nurses Day Observed at the Military Medical Academy
A celebration of the International Nurses Day of was held today in the Military Medical Academy and it was attended by State Secretary in the Ministry of Defence Bojan Jocić, Deputy Head of the Military Medical Academy Colonel Prof Dragan Dinčić and the staff of that military health institution and numerous guests.
The International Nurses Day is celebrated on 12th May on the birth day of Florence Nightingale who is considered to be the founder of modern nursing and great fighter for the rights of women. That day has been celebrated in this military medical institution for the thirteenth time.
The Head Nurse of the Military Medical Academy Verica Milovanović, welcoming the guests spoke about, as she pointed out, very important profession that she belonged to.
- Many years of work are behind us during which the generations invested their knowledge and skills and together overcame successfully numerous problems. They set new tasks and goals for the better future. Our profession is hard and demanding, stressful and responsible and it requires continued advancement of knowledge and skills and good communication – said the Head Nurse of the Military Medical Academy and added that successful treatment of patients largely depends on the work of nurses so the nurses have to regularly keep up with developments in medical science and daily enhance their work.
As in previous years, on the occasion of the International Nurses Day at the Military Medical Academy the nurse of the year of that institution was proclaimed as well as the best nurses of groups of the clinics, institutes and centres.
The selection panel unanimously decided to somewhat change the rules this year and to give this award not only for the previous year but for the overall work to the Head Nurse of the Military Medical Academy Verica Milovanović who is soon to conclude her fruitful years of work and to retire and who, as it could be heard, is a founder of this tradition of presenting the award.
Congratulating the holiday to the colleague nurses, Deputy Head of the Military Medical Academy Colonel Prof Dragan Dinčić emphasised that it is a difficult and responsible profession.
- The nurses’ job has to be done professionally and with a lot of love and responsibility. Sadly, some of the colleagues are ill today and some are absent, some luckily pregnant, some are in peacekeeping missions and many of them went tired this morning after their duty service to their homes where new obligations await – said Deputy Head of the MMA.
Occasional musical programme at the celebration of the International Nurses Day was performed by members of Artistic Ensemble of the Ministry of Defence Stanislaf Binički and by choir of the Ministry of Defence conduced by Katarina Božić.
