Celebrated Day of Victory over Fascism
On the occasion of 9th May - Day of Victory over Fascism, representative of the President of Serbia and Secretary General Nikola Selaković laid wreath at the monument to the Unknown Hero on Mt. Avala accompanied by General Ljubiša Diković, Chief of General Staff of the Serbian Armed Forces and Major General Milomir Todorović, Commander of the Guard of the Serbian Armed Forces.
On that occasion, representative of the President, Nikola Selaković, wrote in the memorial book:
“Eternal glory to the heroes who have won the greatest monster in the history of mankind and paid with their livesa a high price of liberty. Forever grateful Serbia.”
The wreath-laying ceremony and paying tribute on the occasion of the Day of Victory over Fascism in World War II was led by Zoran Djordjević, Minister of Labour, Employment, Veterans and Social Policy of the Government of the Republic of Serbia.
With military and state honours, Minister Djordjević laid a wreath and paid tribute to the main postament of the Cemetery of the Liberators of Belgrade in World War II and the Monument to the Fallen Red Army soldiers within the same memorial complex.
The wreaths were also laid by representatives of the Ministry of Defence and the Serbian Armed Forces, representatives of the City of Belgrade, representatives of the State SUBNOR Committee, ambassadors of Russia, Belarus, Azerbaijan and Ukraine, as well as representatives of the veterans' associations and citizens.
The delegation of the Ministry of Defence and the Serbian Armed Forces laid a wreath at the Monument to the Soviet War Veterans on Mt. Avala.
The Victory Day is marked by numerous events in Serbia, as well as ceremonies and gatherings at the military memorials and the places of suffering in numerous municipalities and cities throughout Serbia.
