Minister of Defence at 1st May Reveille in Karađorđevo
Today, Minister of Defence Aleksandar Vulin attended the traditional 1st May Reveille at “Mladost” hippodrome in Karađorđevo, organised by the Ministry of Defence, Tourist Organisation of Bačka Palanka, Equestrian Club “Karađorđevo“ and Military Establishment “Morović” of Karađorđevo complex. The minister was accompanied by State Secretary Bojan Jocić, President of Municipality Assembly of Bačka Palanka Mita Lačanski and numerous guests.
Congratulating the international holiday of labour to the members of the Ministry of Defence and Serbian Armed Forces, the minister of defence said that the Serbian Armed Forces were part of our tradition and that they were always there to be a part of everyday life of our every citizen.
- The horse farm “Karađorđevo“ is something that makes us in the armed forces particularly proud and I know that it makes Bačka Palanka proud as well, just like the entire Serbia is proud of it. In the upcoming period, you may expect that we will restore some traditions that used to do us credit and that will certainly give us great pleasure and make us all proud – the minister of defence said and announced restoring traditional race in September that used to be organised by the armed forces, where as he pointed out, the best horses and horse riders would be seen in Karađorđevo.
- One will be able to see what it is that the Serbian Armed Forces possess, since we are a part of the tradition and part of people’s memory, but we are also a part of this country’s future – the minister of defence said and added that the armed forces are always there with their citizens and that they would always support everything that made the life of our citizens better.
The official programme, under the patronage of the municipality of Bačka Palanka, started with the exhibition of stallions, which was followed by ceremonial opening of the event. The programme was continued by performance of cultural ensembles and in the afternoon the carriage ride ensued including the demonstration of riders’ skills in the two-horse team, four-horse team and children riders categories.
Later in the programme a parade was organised and selection of the most beautiful carriage, and after that the guests toured the museum of “Karađorđevo” horse farm of the Military establishment “Morović” and the children had an opportunity to ride ponies.
The rich programme prepared for the visitors was concluded by tasting the beans prepared in the military kitchen.
Today, there are around 380 households in Karađorđevo community with some 900 inhabitants. The May Day Reveille has been organised since 1980, and the celebration of the labour holiday has always been an occasion for the population to socialise with the guests from the “old neighbourhood” because there are many inhabitants who settled there after the Second World War.
