Reception to Mark the International Women’s Day
In the Great War Hall of the Old General Staff in Belgrade, a reception was held to mark 8th March – International Women’s Day hosted by Minister of Defence Aleksandar Vulin and Chief of General Staff of the Serbian Armed Forces General Ljubiša Diković.
Congratulating the holiday to all female colleagues, the minister of defence expressed sincere appreciation and love, on behalf of all the members of the Ministry of Defence and Serbian Armed Forces, for each lady member of defence system.- You have always been the toughest, most persistent critics, but the greatest support and greatest joy. That is why I always have stage-fright when I speak in front of you because I know that you see me well and that you know each of us better than we would like you to. There are 6670 female members in the Ministry of Defence who each day give their best to make our country a better and safer place for living. Every day, 1612 armed female members make sure that Serbia is safe and secure – Minister Vulin said, adding every day each of them, just like their male colleagues, strives towards becoming better, more trained and prepared in order to make the world around us a better place to live in.
The minister of defence thanked the ladies for the years of self-sacrificing and loyalty and the years of waking the hope, and for the courage to choose the military profession and so bravely and confidently take over the duties that had been reserved exclusively for men. - You overcame all the hurdles long time ago and proved how valuable every female member of our system is and how much we can learn from each other, because these are not two conflicted worlds – the minister of defence said.
He reminded that every morning when the female members of the Ministry of Defence and Serbian Armed Forces put on their uniforms or arrived at their working places, they were not sure when they would return their homes, because they had been entrusted with the job of doing their best for the country to be better, consciously disregarding their families. That is why, as he pointed out, one should thank the families of the employed in the Ministry of Defence and Serbian Armed Forces for their patience, enthusiasm, confidence and love which they felt for the defence system.The International Women’s Day is marked on 8th March in memory of the day of struggle for economic, political and social equality of women and men. The first national Women’s Day was marked on 28th February 1909 in the United States of America after a declaration issued by Socialist Party of America. Officially, 8th of March was accepted as the International Women’s Day in 1917, while the United Nations proclaimed the year 1975 as the International year of women and started officially observing the International Women’s Day.
