Members of the Third Army Brigade Conquered the “Trem”
A four member team of Command of the Third Army Brigade, headed by Major Saša Jovanović successfully carried out activity of civil-to-military cooperation and together with more than a thousand mountaineers from Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Macedonia and Bulgaria by harsh winter weather conquered, according to the words of the mountaineers, one of the two most difficult climbs in the mountaineering calendar.
Apart from Major Jovanović, the team included Lieutenant Bojan Maksimović, Sergeant First Class Stojadin Nikolić and Chief NCO in the Command of the Third Army Brigade Sergeant Major Marijan Piljić, who stated that such experience could not be described by words and added: “This is the first time that I have participated in such activity. I applied in order to test my capabilities and I am extremely satisfied with the results. Snow, adverse weather conditions and slippery terrain made the climbing more interesting. I look forward to applying and participating in following activities”.
The national mountaineering activity, the 22nd “Winder Climb on Trem” was organised by Mountaineering Club “Železničar” from Niš. The start of the track was in the village Donja Studena and goes through the village of Gornja Studena, over Bojanine Vode, spring “Ljuba’s Fountain”, pass Devojački grob and ridge of the Suva Mountain to the summit Trem. The entire one way length of the track is 12.4 kilometres.
With its height of 1810 metres, Trem is the highest peak of the Suva Mountain, on its western part, and it is one of the tallest peaks in Serbia, and it is considered to me the most attractive peak, primarily because of the fact that the northern segment of the calcareous rock has a vertical fall of 1000 metres.
