Chief of General Staff Paying Visit to Greece
Since yesterday, Chief of General Staff of the Serbian Armed Forces General Ljubiša Diković is in the visit to the Hellenic Republic during which he met Greek Minister of Defence and Chief of General Staff.
Following the official reception in front of the building of the Ministry of National Defence, General Diković talked with the Chief of General Staff of the National Defence of Greece Admiral Evangelos Apostolakis.
Admiral Apostolakis, with his closest associates, informed the delegation of the Serbian Armed Forces about fundamental characteristics and current engagement of the Hellenic Armed Forces, and with the on-going and planned activities of the EU Battlegroup “HELBROC” with Greece as the leading nation.
Apart from that, General Diković and Admiral Apostolakis talked about the current security situation in the region and bilateral military cooperation between Serbia and Greece, chiefly in the field of training, exercises and professional advancement of the two armed forces, and about the participation of the Serbian Armed Forces in the EU Battlegroup “HELBROC”.
Diković and Apostolakis agreed that defence cooperation was diverse and developed, and that it followed the level of the overall bilateral relations between the two traditionally friendly countries, but that there certainly were room for its further enhancement.
Today, Chief of General Staff of the Serbian Armed Forces was received by Greek Minister of Defence Panos Kamenos, with whom he talked about the bilateral cooperation between the two countries.
During the visit to Greece, General Diković laid wreath with the highest military honours at the Monument to the Unknown Hero at the Central Athenian Square Sintagma, and this evening, together with his Greek colleague, he is going to attend the opening of an exhibition in our Embassy in Athens, organised to observe the 150th anniversary of the signing of the first Agreement on Alliance between Serbia and Greece.
The delegation of the Serbian Armed Forces visited yesterday combat cruising boat “Georgios Averof” and in the continuation of the visit, tomorrow, our delegation will visit the Airborne School of the Army General Staff of Greece in Aspropyrgos.
