Sergeant First Class Ivan Ristić the Winner of the Award the “Noblest Deed of the Year”
As part of traditional action of “Večernje Novosti“daily – the “Noblest Deed of the Year”, the panel presided by academician Matija Bećković, decided that Sergeant First Class Ivan Ristić, member of the 11th Infantry Battalion of the First Army Brigade, should be the winner of the 55th prestigious title of the noblest individual in 2017.
Last year, on 5th November, Sergeant First Class Ristić, risking his own life, saved a woman attacked with knife in Pančevo.
The panel’s rationale characterised the deed as a “Torch of Nobility”.
- Ivan has given us the most beautiful example of our humane side, of bravery and humanity – the academician, Matija Bećković, the President of the panel said.
- It was only Ivan among hundreds of those who observed in silence the bullying of the woman, who was brave enough to jump on the bully and prevent him in his aim to kill her. The witnesses said that he threw himself on the bully as the blade of the knife was near to the woman’s neck.
In November 2017, Minister of Defence Aleksandar Vulin rewarded Sergeant First Class Ristić for the shown selflessness and courage.
Apart from academician Matija Bećković, the panel for the “Noblest Deed of the Year” also included academician Dušan Kovačević, actresses Tanja Bošković and Rada Đuričin, Deputy Head of the MMA, Col Miroslav Vukosavljević Prof Dr, humanitarian Arnaud Guyon , journalist Branko Stanković, “Comtrade” Director Veselin Jevrosimović, and Editor in Chief of “Večernje Novosti” Milorad Vuučelić.
