Minister Vulin: Serbia Would Like more Peaceful and Stable Situation in the Region

Answering journalists question about how and to what extent the situations such as the initiative to abolish the Special Court for the Crimes Committed by KLA in Kosovo and Metohija or desire of the Republic of Croatia to present a note of protest to Serbia, contribute to creation of tensions and suspense in the region, Minister of Defence Aleksandar Vulin noted that the situation in the region was not as Serbia desired it to be.

- We would prefer it to be much more peaceful and much more stable. I am very concerned about what is happening in Kosovo and Metohija, since the International community seems to look for an alibi to avoid establishing the Special court for crimes committed by KLA and, though it declaratively advocates for the establishment of the Court, I cannot see any concrete measures and concrete steps taken. I would like the international community to face the representatives of Priština with a clear choice – you will either be a part of the civilised world in which the war crimes are tried, or you will be strictly punished for your position that Serbian victims do not deserve the truth and that those who committed the crimes against Serbs do not deserve punishment. My personal opinion is that unless the Court is established, we should stop the dialogue with Priština and demand dissolution of the Government from the Serbian List, and ask the international community in Kosovo and Metohija to either enforce what it has to enforce, when it has no interlocutors who understand the meaning of crime or punishment, or to admit its failure so that we can redefine its position in Kosovo and Metohija – Minister Vulin pointed out.
According to his words, the Republic of Croatia, sadly, uses every opportunity to find a reason that would make Serbs and Serbia look bad or look like a clutch of people who hate the others.

- As you know, the incident they talked about in Zagreb that caught huge media attention was not a national incident, and it was not something that you could have influenced. It simply happened, just like other things happen regardless of someone’s nationality. I am sorry that Croatia simply cannot stop considering Serbs and Serbia to be the cause of all its failures and errors, all its troubles, and because it is not capable of dealing with itself. We have never done that, and you will admit that there are numerous examples of Serbs living in the Republic of Croatia who were subject to numerous attacks. And I am not talking about tavern brawls but the attacks in the Parliament, attacks in the Assembly, attacks in laws which proclaimed them to be aggressors in the country where they had been born and lived for centuries, or attacks by media – Minister Vulin said.

He added that we were trying to maintain peace, stability, and to be a factor that will pacify our entire region, but it is very difficult when you are the only one doing it.

- Aleksandar Vučić pursues the policy of reconciliation. I am not sure if and what kind of interlocutors he has on the other side and whether he has them whatsoever. I am not sure because when two years pass after the attempt to kill him in Srebrenica and no one apologises, let alone answer for that; I am not sure that we have interlocutors who desire peace and stability, just like I am not sure that Vučić has interlocutors for the policy of peace and reconciliation in Croatia, where every opportunity is taken to blacken Serbia, where the laws are passed stating that Serbs are aggressors in the country of their birth – the minister of defence pointed out.
