Minister Vulin: Worthy of the Memory of the Glorious Iron Regiment
On the occasion of 6th November – Day of Engineer Service, Minister of Defence Aleksandar Vulin visited today the greatest engineer unit of the Serbian Armed Forces, the 310th Engineer Battalion of the 3rd Army Brigade, located in barracks “Ratko Pavlović Ćićko” in Prokuplјe.
Before visiting tactical and technical display and the demonstration of a part of operational capabilities, the minister held a meeting with the representatives of the Serbian Armed Forces, the 3rd Army Brigade and Prokuplјe municipality. The meeting was also attended by the Army Commander Lieutenant General Milosav Simović, 3rd Army Brigade Commander Colonel Predrag Grbić and the President of Prokuplјe municipality Aleksandar Simonović.
According to the minister of defence, the engineer service, just like every service of the Serbian Armed Forces is not merely a service “but an orientation, decision and will of each its member to be where he is needed as much and whenever it is required”.
- Your service is not just something to talk about, take photographs of or write about, but it is a capability of each of you to be with those who are in a difficulty and whenever they are in a difficulty, when it is needed to clear the road, to clear the snow, to move tons of mud, earth, rock, when life should be restored to normal, to become worthy of living. Then we send you. Then we send our engineers for whom there cannot be and must not be an obstacle that cannot be overcome. That is something that you have made us accustomed to and we expect no less from you – Minister Vulin emphasised.
He sent word to the members of the 3rd Brigade that it was a Brigade that continued the glorious tradition of the Iron Regiment.
- None of you cannot and must not be any less than the memory of glorious warriors, invincible iron heroes. The brigade where you serve continues the tradition of the Iron Regiment and you are following their footsteps determined to resemble them, to be remembered just like the ones before you were remembered. Your children are proud of their fathers, proud of you just like, before you, the people were proud of the heroes of the Iron Regiment. All our armed forces are elite armed forces. There is no single unit in our armed forces that does not deserve the utmost respect that does not deserve to be remembered and rejuvenated. Each Serbian soldier is a soldier who cherishes within himself the tradition of the best and victorious ones from Kajmakčalan, heroes of Thessaloniki front, the victors from Kumanovo, and victors from Bregalnica. Every Serbian soldier has the right to think of himself in the way that the entire country thinks of him; as the best, the bravest. That is why we are proud of each of you, and of the way in which you fought in the times behind us and we are confident about the way how you will create and work in the times that are yet to come – Minister Vulin said and added that no one chooses the military or that vocation randomly, nor under the pressure or force, but “because you love your country and because you are ready to serve it just like you do”.
- And when you return to your houses, your homes, when you snatch little time from your daily obligations to be with your children and with your families, I want you to be proud of what you have done and what you do, just like the state of Serbia is proud of you. I want your families, your children to know how much you are protected, how much you are taken care of, how much you are thought of and that the times to come will prove that your financial position will be better, and that the respect that you feel will be undiminished, if it is possible to be greater. When you spend time with your families, who often or rarely ask whether you can or how much you can, but ask from you to give your best, I want you and I want them to be proud, and feel cherished and the most loved segment of our society and our state; as much as we are proud of the heroes of Kajmakčalan. I want us to be as much proud of each of you, of your patient, stubborn and determined work and resolve to make this country a better place for living – Minister Vulin stated.
According to the minister of defence, all of us, from the President of the Government, to the Supreme Commander, want you to be proud of your country and to feel each day that you spend working for your country, for your people, since it is the work worthy of respect, that it is the day when you did something for which you will be remembered.
- I know that you are worthy of the memory of the Iron Regiment, and I know that, just like we remember them and their names, some new children, a new rank that will be standing here one day, proudly speak about you about four feats and about everything that you have done and do for the state of Serbia, because we are always peaceful and secure when we know that you are on guard, the sons of the Iron Regiment, fathers of a new Iron Regiment – Minister Vulin said.
President of the municipality Aleksandar Simonović commended the cooperation of the Serbian Armed Forces with the local authorities and said that they were always there “when we need any kind of help” and that because of that everybody felt secure.
