Serbian Armed Forces in the new UN mission in the Middle East
Chief of General Staff of the Serbian Armed Forces, General Ljubiša Diković, spoke today in Belgrade with members of the Serbian Armed Forces who will be leaving for the peace-keeping operations of the European Union in Somalia and of the United Nations in the Middle East during the following days.
The Serbian Armed Forces starts with engagement in another UN mission by deploying Lieutenant Colonel Steven Rašeta as a military observer in the UNDOF mission in the Middle East.
The UNDOF peace-keeping operation was established by the UN Security Council Resolution of 31st May 1974 to separate the Syrian and Israeli armed forces during the Arab-Israeli wars. The mandate of the mission forces is to maintain ceasefire and to monitor disengagement and separation areas between the armed forces of Israel and Syria.
A five-member medical team led by Major Zoran Mladenović is leaving for the European Union Training Mission in Somalia (EUTM Somalia) to be engaged in the medical treatment of the mission members for the next six months.
In this mission, the members of the Serbian Armed Forces have been taking part since 25th April 2012, and currently those who are engaged are an officer serving as Surgeon General and a five-member medical team.
