Minister of Defence meets with Chairman of the EU Military Committee
Defence Minister Aleksandar Vulin has met today with the Chairman of the European Union Military Committee General Mikhail Kostarakos. On this occasion, Minister Vulin emphasized that the foreign policy goal of the Republic of Serbia is to retain the status of a militarily neutral state.
Through the process of European integration, our country stands ready to build capacities and capabilities of the national security and defence system in accordance with the standards and obligations arising from the EU Common Security and Defence Policy.
Minister Vulin emphasized that the engagement of members of the Ministry of Defence and the Serbian Armed Forces in multinational operations under the mandate of the European Union provides a very favorable influence on the overall process of integration of the Republic of Serbia into the European Union. He also informed that additional efforts will be made in the forthcoming period to begin the participation of Serb representatives in the EU-led civilian missions.
Last month, after all the participating states signed the Note on the Accession to the EU HELBROC battlegroup, the Republic of Serbia became a full member of this group, thus rounding out the participation of the Ministry of Defence and the Serbian Armed Forces in all available mechanisms of the EU Common Security and Defence Policy.
The Administrative Agreement that the Ministry of Defence signed with the European Defence Agency greatly contributes to the improvement of military and defence capabilities, the strengthening of the domestic defence industry, the research potential of the Serbian institutes, the expansion of the market, and the technological modernization of the armed forces.
Recognizing European integrations as one of the national interests of the Republic of Serbia, the Ministry of Defence continuously seeks to improve administrative capacities by advanced training of personnel in the field of the EU Common Security and Defence Policy by attending various types of training in this area.
