Minister Vulin: Serbia has never been an Aggressor
Minister of Defence Aleksandar Vulin is in and official visit to Austria, where he laid a wreath this morning at the Monument to the fighters against fascism at the Central cemetery.
- Serbia has no reason to be ashamed of its past. We have always been on the better side of the world and we have always been where liberty was. Serbia did not start, nor caused, nor sought either the First or the Second World War, just like it did not ask to be bombarded in 1999, just like never in its history it asked to be occupied, devastated, and attacked. It is precisely why we, the descendants of the victorious ones, we the descendants of those who were always on the better side of the world, should remember them with gratitude; we should remember them with care and always remind ourselves how important and great they were and that without them, today we would not have been able to say that we live in free Serbia – Minister Vulin stated after laying a wreath stressing that “at the cemetery of our brave Serbian ancestors we can say that we are grateful to them and we can yet again underline that Serbs have always been and they will always be on the side of freedom”.
At the same time, the minister of defence pointed out that the past is behind us, and that Austria is our friend today.
- We share many fears with Austria just like we share many hopes as well. We wish to participate in the creation of a peaceful and good world but there is no reason why we should not be proud of our past, there is no reason why we should not remember the times when we fought for freedom. Serbia will always fight for freedom and Serbia has never in its history been an aggressor, nor tried to take someone else’s territory, to change someone else’s way of life, to impose itself and impose its notions of the world. That is how we will continue to behave – Minister Vulin concluded.
Today the minister of defence will meet his Austrian colleague Hans Peter Doskozil, upon whose invitation he has arrived in Vienna.
