Promotion of the book "Forgotten Admiral"

In the framework of the joint project of the Ministry of Defence of the Republic of Serbia, the British Embassy in Belgrade and Radio-Television of Serbia - "Forgotten Admiral - Ser Ernest Troubridge", the book "Forgotten Admiral" was presented today onboard the military ship "Kozara".

The project involves a documentary film that will be premiered on 12th October on RTS and in a bilingual book, with a disc, which contains a selection from the diary of British Admiral Ernest Troubridge. From 1915 to 1919, he was with the Serbian Army and in various ways provided assistance in the achievement of the Serbian war objective during the First World War.

State Secretary in the Ministry of Defence Aleksandar Živković, British Ambassador Denis Keefe, Admiral Troubridge's grandson Sir Thomas Troubridge and the author of the project in the RTS Information Program, Slađana Zarić, spoke about the book and the project.

According to State Secretary Živković, the diary notes are significant testimony to our victories and our suffering, as well as the size of the heroism of the Serbian people and the Serbian Army.

- These records of Admiral Troubridge come from a position of a person who has seen and experienced a lot, and that is their value. Serbia can only be proud of such a friend who did not leave it even in its hardest times. For such a relationship, Serbia has paid off to him by its highest honours. Thanks to everyone who supported this project, because our film and literary story about, I would emphasize, "Unforgettable Admiral" will be heard even further, as he deserves it, Živković said.

Ambassador Denis Keefe said that it is symbolic that the book promotion is held on the rivers that Sir Troubridge really loved, and pointed out that the book "is a valuable historical document and an interesting narrative bz which Ernest Troubridge ceases to be forgotten."

Admiral Troubridge's grandson, Sir Thomas Troubridge, said that his grandfather would certainly be very proud to know that his descendant is now on the Belgrade rivers.

Author Slađana Zarić said that the whole project was a great challenge for her and her team, emphasizing that she did not believe that "after a period of one hundred years she could discover something new." She thanked the collaborators in the implementation of the project and recommended everyone to watch the film and read the diary notes that have not been published in the UK so far, but were only available to researchers.

Today's promotion of the book was attended by representatives of the Ministry of Defence, the Serbian Armed Forces, RTS, members of the Parliamentary Delegation of the United Kingdom and numerous guests. The second part of the promotion included a trip on Belgrade rivers and talks with the historian Danilo Šarenac, PhD, Dragan Inđić, Editor-in-Chief of the RTS Publishing Department, and Lieutenant Commander Darko Stričić, commander of the Second River Fleet of the Serbian Armed Forces.

The book on the forgotten Admiral published by RTS Publishing Service and the Ministry of Defence, supported by the UK Embassy, is based on the journals written by Ernest Troubridge during the Great War, which the Troubridge family gave to the author of the project and institutions involved in its implementation. The book was prepared by a historian from the Institute for Contemporary History, Danilo Šarenac, PhD.

The film and the publication of Troubridge's diaries were created in the year when the Embassy of the United Kingdom in Belgrade celebrates 180 years of diplomatic relations with Serbia.
