Handover of duty of Commander Sector West in MINUSCA
Colonel Milivoje Pajović, PhD, head of the Center for Peace-Keeping Operations, currently engaged in the UN mission in the Central African Republic (MINUSCA), will perform the duty of a commander of the Sector West in the forthcoming period, until the appointment of a new commander.
At the handover ceremony at Bouar, the outgoing Commander Brigadier General Iqbal Imran from the Pakistani Armed Forces wished Colonel Pajović success in his new office and said that he was sure that Colonel Pajović, with his knowledge, skills, professional attitude towards obligations and dedication, would contribute significantly to the mission as a whole.
Colonel Pajović served as Deputy Commander of the Sector West in this peacekeeping operation since March 2017.
Sector West, which includes the area covering more than 250,000 km2, with more than 14 different armed factions, is very unstable region, and military forces of the MINUSCA mission are trying to maintain a fragile peace. This sector is important for the entire UN mission in the Central African Republic as the main supply route for the functioning of the mission is passing through it, leading to Cameroon and Douala.
Engagement of officers from the Serbian Armed Forces as a Sector Commander is a confirmation of high quality of Serbian officers and confirms the fact that the United Nations have full confidence in all members of the Serbian Armed Forces who engage in peacekeeping missions around the world. The Serbian Armed Forces has started engaging in MINUSCA mission since 20th September 2014 and currently, apart from Colonel Pajović, there are two officers on staff duties, two officers as military observers and 70 members of the military hospital role 2.
