Anniversary of the Battle of Ivankovac
In memorial park Ivankovac near Ćuprija, on a site Šančevi on Ivankovac, a central ceremony was held on the occasion of 212th anniversary of the Battle of Ivankovac and the victory of Serbian rebels over regular Turkish imperial army led by Hafiz – Pasha.
State Secretary in the Ministry of Labour, Employment, Veteran and Social Affairs Negoslav Stanković laid a wreath on behalf of that Ministry at the monument to the leader of the uprising Milenko Stojković, while Commander of Požarevac garison Colonel Milovan Vasić laid a wreath on behalf of Serbian Armed Forces, while on behalf of the municipality of Ćuprija, a wreath was laid by the President of the Municipality Ninosalav Erić.
“Today, we mark 212th anniversary of the most glorious battle of Karađorđe’s rebels lead by Milenko Stojković, who by their brilliant victory and patriotism wove into ourselves a belief and conviction that we have to honour our history and our ancestors” – Stanković said.
The battle of Ivankovac, that took place on this day in 1805, as evaluated by historians “represents one of the most significant and greatest victories of Karađorđe’s rebels led by Milenko Stojković in the entire period of the First Serbian Uprising”.
