Marking the Anniversary of the Battle of Mišar
Today, in a place called Mišar near Šabac the 211th anniversary of the Battle of Mišar was marked. During the ceremony, held near the monument to Karađorđe and the heroes of Mišar, the wreaths were laid and the highest state and military honours were paid.
The wreaths were laid at the monument by the representatives of the Ministry of Defence and Serbian Armed Forces, as well as the associations and citizens devoted to cherishing the tradition of liberation wars of Serbia.
The state ceremony of marking the anniversary was led by the State Secretary in the Ministry of Labour, Employment, Veteran and Social Affairs of the Government of the Republic of Serbia, Negovan Stanković.
The Battle of Mišar took place on 13th August 1806, and it represented one of the most significant victories of the rebels over the units of regular armed forces of the Otoman Empire. Led by the Grand Leader Karađorđe and prominent champions of the uprising from Šabac and Valjevo region, Serbs won a brilliant victory which strengthened the position of the rebels and dramatically challenged the status of Turks within Belgrade Pashalic.
