New Room for the Cooperation between Serbia and Israel
The recent visit from the Minister of Defence of Serbia to Israel and the continuation and enhancement of defence cooperation were the topics covered at today’s meeting of Minister Aleksandar Vulin and Ambassador of the State of Israel in Belgrade, Alona Fisher Kamm. First of all, Minister Vulin expressed his great satisfaction with the meeting with his Israeli colleague Avigdor Lieberman, with whom, as he pointed out, he had had exceptionally fruitful talks, that opened opportunities for significant intensification of cooperation, particularly in the fields of military education, military medicine and defence industry.
- I underline the significance of signing the Memorandum of Understanding between the Government of the Republic of Serbia and the Government of the State of Israel on Military, Defence and Defence Industrial Cooperation which created a normative framework for further development of the cooperation in all areas of mutual interest and reconfirmed the interest of the both sides to make further progress and intensify bilateral defence cooperation in particular – Minister Vulin said, expressing his satisfaction for having had an opportunity to visit a company of Israeli defence industry Cyberbit and to be familiarised with the national cyber strategy and solutions of the Israeli side in that area. He stated that during the visit to the Memorial Centre Yad Vashem he had commended the beginning of the implementation of the Agreement on Cooperation between the Military Archive of the Ministry of Defence of Serbia and the Memorial Centre which among other preserves the memory of the victims from the camp Jasenovac.
Minister Vulin reiterated how grateful he was to Israel for not recognising the self-proclaimed “State” of Kosovo, reminding of the personal contribution in this respect of Minister Lieberman and the Patriarch of Jerusalem, Theophilos III, who during the meeting with Minister Vulin, had referred to Kosovo as “Serbian Jerusalem where Serbian law and Serbian state should exist”.
It was jointly stated at the meeting that the visit from Minister Vulin to Israel, the first ministerial visit since 2003, had opened new room for the cooperation of the two states and two ministries and it gave an impetus which is necessary to use for initiatives, exchange of ideas and concrete projects.
