Contribution to the Peace in the World
At today’s meeting of the Minister of Defence, Aleksandar Vulin with the Head of the UN Office, Simona Mirela Miculescu, the both sides expressed mutual interest in continuing and enhancing rather successful cooperation established in the previous period. The topics of the meeting referred to the participation of Serbian in the UN Peacekeeping Operations in support of peacekeeping efforts of the world organisation, regional security issues and migrant crisis.
Emphasising total dedication to peaceful resolution of all outstanding issues in the region, Minister Vulin pointed out the importance of the negotiations with the Provisional Institutions of Self-Government in Priština in terms of betterment of life conditions of all the citizens in Kosovo and Metohija, along with the protection of sovereignty and territorial integrity and honouring the UN SC Resolution 1244 and Military Technical Agreement.
Minister Vuling underlined the dedication of Serbia to the peacekeeping efforts of the United Nations, which is best demonstrated in the continuous increase in participation of the Serbian Armed Forces in peacekeeping operations under the mandate of the world organisation and the European Union. Establishing the Balkan Medical Task Force represents a new contribution to the regional cooperation and confidence, but the practical benefit that all participating countries will have and potentially the other affected areas.
When it comes to resolving the issue of migrant crisis, Serbia acts as a responsible member of international community and takes over a significant portion of the burden. The joint performance of Joint military and police forces of Serbia in securing the state border towards Bulgaria and Macedonia is also notable.
The common conclusion of the meeting was that Serbia attached an exceptional significance to the values and activities of the UN on the preservation of the world peace, resolution of conflicts, respect of the right to equality and equal participation and representation of women and men in all the spheres of social life.
