Minister Vulin visits General Staff
Today, Minister of Defence Aleksandar Vulin visited the General Staff of the Serbian Armed Forces for the first time. Chief of the Serbian Armed Forces General Staff, General Ljubiša Diković welcomed the Minister of Defence in front of the honour line of the Guard.
At the meeting with the members of the collegium, General Diković welcomed Minister Vulin and presented him major tasks, organisation, development, modernisation and resources of the Serbian Armed Forces.
During the meeting, the Chief of General Staff informed the Minister of Defence that the operational capabilities of the Serbian Armed Forces were at the required level, that the situation was stable and that it ensured the execution of the assigned missions and tasks of the Serbian Armed Forces.
Greeting the members of the collegium, Minister Vulin thanked for all that the Serbian Armed Forces members did and are doing for their country, adding that he will work respecting the profession.
- It is a great honour to be at the helm of the Ministry of Defence and work on continuous increasing the safety of all our citizens, but taking into account that the role of the Serbian Armed Forces is respected, promoted and that the entire society takes into account the views and positions of the Serbian Armed Forces. The Serbian Armed Forces is certainly something that determines us, defines us, distinguishes us and makes our people proud. The Serbian Armed Forces is part of our history, part of our present and, certainly, part of our future, Minister of Defence said.
According to him, to be at the helm of the Ministry of Defence is also a great obligation and this is "obligation to continuously work on improving the material position of members of the Serbian Armed Forces, level of the provision of technical equipment, training, combat readiness, but also to work on raising the feeling of respect for the Serbian Armed Forces whereever it is, regardless of whether it is in the country or abroad."
Minister Vulin emphasized that it is also a great responsibility to be at the helm of the Ministry of Defence.
- The head of our army is the supreme commander, in accordance with the Constitution and the law, whose word will be respected taking account of his positions and making sure that the policy he runs is fully implemented. The Republic of Serbia can be safe, peaceful and stable as long as it has such an army, the Minister of Defence said.
Minister Vulin then visited the Operational Center of the defence system from where he personally received a video report from Lieutenant Colonel Dušan Mrdak, senior national representative at the UNIFIL mission in Lebanon. Lieutenant Colonel Mrdak informed Minister Vulin that 177 members of the Serbian Armed Forces, currently deployed in Lebanon, are performing their regular tasks and that all of them are safe and sound.
