Anniversary of the Battle of Ljubić Marked
The 202nd Anniversary of the Battle of Ljubić was marked on the hill of Ljubić, by laying wreaths and paying homage to the war leader Tanasko Rajić and the fallen heroes.
On that occasion, Assistant Minister for Labour, Employment, Veteran and Social Affairs, Milan Popović said that it was very important to cherish the tradition, adding that the battle that had taken place on the hill of Ljubić was very important battle in the Second Serbian Uprising.
The wreaths were laid by the representatives of the Ministry of Defence and Serbian Armed Forces, Ministry of Labour, Employment, Veteran and Social Affairs, Morava Administrative District, Mayor of Čačak, as well as the representatives of numerous associations and citizens commited to cherishing the tradition of Liberation wars in Serbia.
The battle of Ljubić took place on 6th June 1815 and it was the most significant battle of the Second Serbian Uprising. Tanasko Rajić, the Commander of Serbian Artillery died on Ljubić. Serbian trenches were fortifed on the hill. Turks surrounded Rajić’s position and managed to overtake it. Turkish Commander, Imshir Pasha died in the battle, and Serbs won victory on Ljubić.
