Sports championship of General Staff opened
The sports championship of the Serbian Armed Forces General Staff was officially opened today in Dedinje barracks in Belgrade.
The official opening was attended by representatives of the Departments of the Serbian Armed Forces General Staff and units directly subordinate to General Staff.
After playing the national anthem and raising the flag, a welcome to competitors was given by the Guard Commander Major General Milomir Todorovic, whose unit is the organizer of the championship this year.
The championship was opened by Head of the Operations Department of General Staff Brigadier General Dusko Zarkovic, who pointed out the importance of physical fitness for total operational capabilities of the Serbian Armed Forces on this occasion.
He emphasized that participation in the championship of General Staff represented selection and would indicate individuals and teams who are best prepared in psychological and physical sense and sportsmen who would be vested with the right to take part in the Serbian Armed Forces General Staff team at the upcoming level of competition – the Serbian Armed Forces championship.
The five-day competition is conducted in seven disciplines – military track and field, shooting, orienteering, athletics, futsal, volleyball and judo – at sports fields of the Military Academy, Military High School, shooting range “Bubanj potok” and in Kosutnjak.
