Confirmation of good cooperation between Serbia and US
The Defence Minister Zoran Djordjevic has met with the US Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs Hoyt Yee, who is in an official visit to the Republic of Serbia.
During the meeting it was confirmed that defence cooperation between Serbia and US is highly developed and it represents the best part of total bilateral relations. The importance of joint exercises was particularly emphasized with the aim to enhance operational and functional capabilities of the Serbian Armed Forces.
“The EU integration, development of collaboration with all key factors of the international community and development of regional cooperation are the main foreign policy objectives of Serbia”, the Defence Minister said during the talks and highlighted that Serbia is committed to further strengthening of cooperation respecting the policy of military neutrality.
Minister Djordjevic also emphasized the cooperation of the Ministry of Defence and the Serbian Armed Forces with the US within the Security Assistance Programme used in the process of modernization of the Serbian Armed Forces and stressed the US donations to Serbia, as well as the joint engagement in training and education of members of two armies.
Mr. Yee expressed very positive impressions about the cooperation of the US and Serbian Armed Forces and highlighted the outstanding professionalism and competence of members of the Ministry of Defence and the Serbian Armed Forces. Moreover, he stressed the contribution of the Republic of Serbia to fight against the Islamic State and participation of members of the Ministry of Defence and Serbian Armed Forces in multinational operations.
At the meeting Mr. Djordjevic and Yee emphasized the significance of keeping peace and stability and exchanged views on the current political and security situation in the region. It was jointly assessed that the objective of both countries is to work on further enhancement of military-to-military cooperation and maintenance of regional stability as the condition for unhindered development in all segments.
