On 26 December 2016, members of the Military Security Agency, in cooperation with the Higher Public Prosecutor's Office in Nis, members of the Military Police and the Police Department in Nis, arrested five members of the Serbian Armed Forces, medical specialists of the military hospital in Nis and four persons who are authorized representatives of companies involved in the trade of orthopaedic aids, medicines and supplements, on the grounds of suspicion that these specialists in the Military Hospital in Nis prescribed and recommended patients orthopaedic aids, medicines and supplements distributed only by particular companies for which they periodically receive some financial compensation, in an unlawful manner, based on previous agreement with the representatives of these companies, so that there exist reasonable grounds to believe that in this way many offenses of bribery and abuse of office were committed.
Based on the order of the Higher Public Prosecutor's Office in Nis, the arrested persons will be held in custody for 48 hours, after which they will be referred to Higher Public Prosecutor's Office in Nis, with criminal charges, for interrogation.
