Serbian aviation first in the region with new MiGs
Defence Minister Zoran Djordjevic said today in Moscow that 6 MiG-29 planes, which Serbia purchases from Russia, should come to our country no later than three months, and then they will be modernized in three phases.
In his statement to the press Djordjevic said that purchase of MiG-29 is one of topics of the conversation today between Serbian Prime Minister AleksandarVucic and Russian Defence Minister Sergei Shoigu. Besides that, there will be talks about military-economic and military-educational cooperation.
Reminding that Serbia has been waiting for purchase of MiG-29 for 25 years, he stated that there were various promises, but this Government has managed to purchase them, adding that with existing four and purchase of six more MiG planes our country will have the most modern squadron in the region.
“Serbia will become a respectable factor in the field of defence with those ten MiG-29 planes. We will protect our sky in the best way for security of our citizens”, Minister stressed.
Djordjevic explained that currently there is no country which is a counterpart to Serbia when it comes to aviation because these are the most modern planes in the region.
According to him, six MiG planes coming from Russia will be modernized in three phases. The first phase will finish in 2017, the second and the third one in 2018 and 2019, and they will be in use for 14 years.
He explained that Serbia purchases MiG-29 with its own resources and under favourable conditions, adding that their purchase will cost much less than they had been bought new or purchased at the market and then overhauled.
